LA ARES

The Amateur Radio Emergency ServiceĀ® (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with their local ARES leadership, to assist in public service and emergency communications. ARES is organized and sponsored by the American Radio Relay League.

The District Emergency Coordinator (DEC) maintains full responsibility for organizing the regional groups and serving as their leader during operations. A District Emergency Coordinator (DEC) is normally assigned to each of the nine (9) regions with the state. The DEC may appoint one or several Assistant Emergency Coordinators (ADEC) and Emergency Coordinators (EC) to oversee certain areas/functions such as severe weather spotting network, Net Managing, Training or Public Information.

The only requirements to join ARES are a willingness to serve and a valid amateur radio license.
